Travelling from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Ocean.
The time difference is four and a half hours from Vancouver and three and a half hours to London, England. St. Michael’s Printshop is located in St. John’s the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. St. John’s is the closest point to Europe in North America, where you can watch English Premier League Soccer on TV at a good time.
St. Michael’s print shop and the Atlantic Ocian (2004)
My favourite time in the St. Michael’s Printshop was to meditate while looking down at the ocean. Thereby, 10 images were born to create etchings: they were titled “The Sea Valley”, which is a life of a paradise in the ocean. The first 3 weeks of my stay were windy, chilly, and rainy. My fabric dye monotype images were from this everyday weather. It is titled “the Windy, Rainy Diary”. There were 32 images printed on Kozo Japanese paper.
This was my favourite spot to sit and work in the print shop.

Capeline hunting but no luck…
One day, a couple of studio mates and I went to the seashore with a bucket. We had planned a B.B.Q. there. Thousands of capelins (a kind of smelt fish about 6” length) were coming to spawn and we could easily catch them by the bucketful. However, the capelins didn’t come that day. Maybe it was a little too early. I still dream of catching capelins by the seashore.
